Hey y'all, I'm the girl, just me, the girl who types her thoughts into the atmosphere as she stuffs her face with baklava. But this entry, as we'll call it today is not about a delicious treat I have become slightly addicted to, it's about my new love of taxis.
In the states we have taxis, but we also have Uber, Lyft, and our friends when we have gas money. But here, here I have Beni. No matter where I am... In Tetovo... they are there. #loyaltyloyaltyloyalty. Ain't no mountain high, literally, that Beni will not go. In the states we have come accustomed to pushing a button on our phones and before we know it there is a car pulling up to our doorstep. If we wanted, we don't have to have any human interaction, at all. As I am living day by day here, conversations with others is much more of a thing. (shameless plug to take a break from your phone and go have a coffee or tea). With Beni I dial a number and I talk to someone, tell them where I am, they let me know how long, and then I hop in and tell them my destination. My Albanian is quite rocky so the conversation during the ride is hit or miss, but without a doubt I love this company.
The other day I called them for a ride, it was late and walking alone at night isn't safe anywhere in the world. The person on the other end picked up and said, "This is Mecca!" I said, "Yes, yes it is!" The entire 45 second conversation was just as enthusiastic. I was like, awww, they know me, I feel loved, lol.
I can truly say that when it is my time to jump back over to the states, I will miss my Beni.
